The project “Theatrical Performances to Raise Awareness of Digital Rights” was created with the goal of introducing the educational community and young audiences to the fundamental principles of digital rights, using theater as a tool for raising awareness, reflection, and dialogue.

This initiative combines short theatrical performances and interactive discussionsthat address topics such as online privacy, the responsible use of social media, the protection of personal data, and the impact of technology on daily life.

The format encourages interaction among performers, students, and faculty, fostering critical and creative learning about the ethical, social, and legal challenges of the digital environment.

Each session consists of:

  • Two short plays.
  • A subsequent discussion with the audience, moderated by Juanita del Pilar Pedraza, a professor and researcher at UC3M, and led by members of the UC3M research group participating in the Digital Rights Observatory project funded by red.es.

The discussions following the performances help broaden the framework of understanding and encourage active audience participation, creating a space for exchange and shared reflection on digital rights.

THE DEBATE

The team of female researchers from UC3M participating in the Digital Rights Observatory is composed of professors in the fields of Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, and Tax Law who have worked on developing educational materials about the Charter of Digital Rights and its impact on case law.

Based on the results of their research, they lead the discussion that follows the presentations, encouraging reflection on the current state of affairs and the importance of understanding and defending rights in digital environments.

The team consists of: Laura Baamonde Gómez, Carmen Camblor de Echanove, Julia María Diaz Calvarro, Isabel Hernández SanJuan, and Juanita Pedraza Córdoba.

I’m just somewhere else

Text and direction by Jelen Morales.
If you could talk to a deceased loved one, would you?

Cast: Ruth Vitto Robano and Marc Daniel Monedero.

Creative Team: Lighting and sound by Flor Guerra.

Synopsis: To what extent can an avatar be a true representation of a person? Who does it belong to? What kind of data can be used to create it? These and other questions are explored in *I’m Just Somewhere Else*, a short play that tells the story of Ruth, a young woman going through the grieving process. In a world where technology allows us to recreate the voices, gestures, and thoughts of those who are no longer with us, the play raises an ethical and deeply human dilemma.

I’m just somewhere else offers a perspective on what defines us as people: it challenges the very idea of mortality and highlights the increasingly blurred line between what we consider real and what we do not.

Player Interpretations

Text and direction by Camino López.

Cast: Leticia Etala and Vittoria Robano.

404

Text and team direction:
Martina Novákova, Montse Simón, and Miguel Valentín.

Synopsis: You receive an unexpected visitor—someone who is curious about your identity. You are at home, at your computer, reading messages in the digital darkness of your private space. You thought your digital rights were safe. You are about to realize how wrong you were.

“404” is a stage and audiovisual production about digital rights and the role they play in our lives. It is a comedy in which a person sees their personal life being encroached upon by their digital life. Digital rights may seem abstract, but they become very real as soon as we start thinking about all the ways our lives are affected by our online activity. How and when do we access the internet? When can we disconnect? What is the quality of the information we receive online? These and other questions are explored through the lens of comedy throughout the play.
